Gelateria Ooji

In June 2017, this gelateria was opened by the owner Masanori Waki in front of the Abeno Ohji Shrine. He started this shop to make more people happy with his wife’s homemade gelato. Her name is Yuki and she runs a gelato shop called La Dolce Vita in Sakai district. Although it’s authentic Italian habit to finish off the meal with gelato, in Japan it’s quite new that gelateria opens until 9 p.m. because of its image as afternoon tea.

Usually 10 kinds of daily special gelato is displayed in the showcase and 30 kinds of cups are prepared for takeout. Through out the year, you can enjoy more than 50 kinds of its original gelato. A standard milk flavor is made of non-homogenized milk from Aso district in Kumamoto. Rich sweetness of a chocolate taste, which is made of 2 kinds of cacao, is addictive. Seasonal fresh fruit gelato is made of a sorbet with less milk fat. As you take a bite, the sweet flavor and smell spread in the whole of mouth and it seems to be richer than even actual fruits.

You can enjoy beers and wines inside the shop and they offers you the best way to enjoy the combination with gelato and drinks. Chocolate flavor goes great with whiskey and Maccha (green tea) flavor from Sakai district is best with Japanese Sake. To have fun in such various ways, you can buy a cup of gelato as snacks with an evening drink.
